A versatile scheme for an indoor multi-use sports centre.
Sports training in a hot desert climate is an internal activity for most of the year. We worked with our client to produce a cost-effective, air-supported and climatically-conditioned venue for indoor sports. The facility can accommodate a full-size soccer pitch or standard IAAF indoor training (with lower-tier seating retracted).
The roof is a cable-reinforced fabric structure supported by internal air pressure greater than ambient. A simple two-tier bowl accommodates coaching and training via a continuous gallery and the venue can host football matches on an artificial grass surface for up to 20,000 spectators.
